Structural Shop Drawings

Structural Shop Drawings at Hamilton By Design.

We view the art of producing Structural shop drawings as a process of producing a drawing or set of drawings, that contains enough information for a seemless manufacturing and assembly / constuction process.

In general terms structural shop floor drawings are produced for architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and or fabricators.

The style of the shop drawing is usually very different from that of the architect’s drawing. The structural shop drawing’s primary emphasis is on the particular product and or installation, they exclude notation concerning other products and installations, unless integration with the subject product is necessary.

In many cases, partially for a fabrication companies shop drawings are the basis or key inputs for enterprise resources planning systems.

Shop drawings are typically of pre-fabricated components with enough information to define geometry so that components can be manufactured. Our team of highly qualified Soidworks designers have produced shop drawings for the past 20+ years.

On a range of projects which have included: elevators, Vessels, Steel making components, structural steel, cranes, trusses, pre-cast, windows, appliances, cabinets, air handling units, and millwork. Shop drawings are not produced by architects and engineers under their contract with the owner.

The shop drawing is the manufacturers or the contractor’s drawn version of information shown in the construction documents’, specific to the product the manufacturer contributes to the project. The shop drawing normally shows more detail than the construction documents. It is drawn to explain the fabrication and/or installation of the items to the manufacturer’s production crew or contractor's installation crews.
