The history of Cad Software for the drawing board to where we are today

Computer-aided design CAD is the use of computers or workstations to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations. The term CADD for Computer Aided Design and Drafting is also used.

Its use in designing electronic systems is known as electronic design automation EDA. In mechanical design it is known as mechanical design automation MDA or computer-aided drafting CAD, which includes the process of creating a technical drawing with the use of computer software.

Structural Detailing

Structural Detailing

Structural Detailing is the art of producing detailed drawings for steel fabricators / steel erectors so that fabrications go together first time every time.  At Hamilton By design the process of detailing is a combination of set out, layouts and detailed plans which generally cover drawings and other documents for the manufacture and erection of steel structures.

Steel Structures can be broken into Columns, Beams, Braces, Trusses, Stairs, Handrails, Joists, Brackets and mechanical components that are used in the construction of building, bridges, industrial plants, and non building structures. Steel detailing projects completed by the Hamilton By design team have been a combination of commercial, residential, public, industrial or municipal. In general terms low-rise residential projects are rarely large enough to require significant amounts of structural steel.

Today, AutoCad drafting has been largely replaced by Solid modelling CAD packages such as Solidworks. A steel detailer using solidworks has been proven to increase there output by 100% compared to 3D Auto-desk Auto-cad traditional methods of detailing.
